Where the points went
The Solar Score weighs performance, build, value, safety and warranty. For a balcony camera, safety means weather sealing and the deterrents the listing states; the SeeVision states IP66 with a siren and spotlight, and the Kiwibit states IP65 with a siren and spotlight. None of the five states a warranty term. How we pick explains the weights.
| Product | Solar Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SeeVision ZY-C8 2K PTZ | 9.6 | 29 | 20 | 21 | 7 | 0 |
| Kiwibit Battery Cam 1 2K | 9.6 | 29 | 20 | 21 | 6 | 0 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
How to choose the best solar security camera for balcony use
Mounting without drilling
Balconies are usually rented, so the mount matters as much as the lens. The Kiwibit listing states a magnetic mount that snaps on with no drilling, plus screw and stand options, and calls the design renter friendly. The SeeVision listing includes a bracket and screws for a wall mount. The three short listings state no mounting detail, so the Kiwibit is the only pick here that promises a drill-free install.
Resolution and night vision
Every listing here states 2K resolution, so the picture differences come from movement and night modes. The SeeVision states 2048 by 1536 with 355° horizontal and 120° vertical rotation, plus color night vision from two white lights. The Kiwibit states a 30 ft visible range with 3x zoom and a choice of full-color or IR night vision. The SEHMUA states a 355° view in its title. For the resolution question in general, see the 2k vs 4k solar security camera comparison.
| Camera | View stated | Night vision stated |
|---|---|---|
| SeeVision ZY-C8 2K PTZ | 355° pan, 120° tilt | Color night vision |
| Kiwibit Battery Cam 1 2K | 30 ft range, 3x zoom | Color or IR |
| SEHMUA 2K 355° View | 355° view | Not stated |
| Oculview 2K 2-Pack | Not stated | Not stated |
| ZEEPORTE 2K 256GB | Not stated | Not stated |
Power and storage
Solar keeps these cameras alive without a cable. The SeeVision states a 5200mAh battery with a solar panel, and the Kiwibit states up to 6 months per charge with two solar panels included in the two-pack. Storage is where the SeeVision pulls ahead: it states Micro SD up to 128GB plus 7-day rolling cloud storage, while the ZEEPORTE title states 256GB and the others state no storage figure. Check the app’s storage terms before relying on cloud clips.
Detection smarts
Motion alerts are only useful if they ignore the cat. The SeeVision states PIR motion detection with AI recognition for people, vehicles, pets and packages, pushing phone notifications through its app. The Kiwibit states PIR sensing with real-time phone alerts, a siren and a spotlight. Both include two-way talk for speaking to visitors. The three short listings state no detection detail, so score them accordingly. Sizing Notes
- Match the mount to the balcony: magnetic for renters, bracket and screws where drilling is allowed.
- Check the stated view against the space: 355° pan covers a wide balcony, a fixed view suits a narrow one.
- Confirm the night mode: color night vision needs its white lights, IR works in full dark.
- Confirm WiFi compatibility: the SeeVision states 2.4GHz WiFi only.
