Solar Security Cameras

Solar powered security cameras compared by resolution, field of view, night vision, battery capacity, panel watts, connection type and stated weather rating.

What to compare in solar security cameras

A solar camera pairs a battery with a small panel, so the balance between them plus the video spec drives the choice.

  • Resolution: 1080p, 2K and 4K are listed. Higher resolution needs more storage and a stronger Wi-Fi signal at the camera.
  • Battery capacity: Stated in mAh. Compare it with the panel's watts, because a big battery with a small panel refills slowly.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi band, cellular and local storage options each differ. Check which one the listing relies on at your location.
  • Field of view and night vision: Degrees and feet are stated by the maker. Wider fields cover more area; night vision range is a separate figure.
  • Subscription needs: The listing may say which features, such as cloud video history, need a paid plan.
  • Mounting: Check mount types and panel cable length, so the panel can face the sun while the camera faces the yard.

Walk the site and check Wi-Fi signal strength at the spot where the camera will go. A great camera with a weak signal drops clips, so connectivity often matters more than resolution. Also read how the camera handles a low battery, since some units stop recording while others drop to a reduced mode.
