Portable Solar Panels

Portable folding solar panels compared by rated watts, open circuit voltage, output connectors, folded size, weight, kickstands and stated weather rating.

What to compare in portable solar panels

Portable panels trade size for convenience, so the label figures matter more than the product photos. Read these points on the listing before comparing anything else.

  • Rated watts: A panel's stated wattage is a peak figure under ideal light. Haze, shade and a low sun angle all pull real output under it, so leave room for that gap.
  • Open-circuit voltage: Compare the listed open-circuit voltage with the maximum input your power station or controller states. A panel above that limit can damage the input.
  • Connector type: MC4, XT60, Anderson and DC5521 plugs do not interchange. Confirm the output plug matches your device, or that the listing includes the adapter.
  • Folded size and weight: Listed dimensions and weight decide whether a panel rides in a pack or needs a vehicle. Check both the folded and open measurements.
  • Stand design: Panels that can be angled toward the sun gather more than ones lying flat. Look for built-in legs or grommets shown on the listing.
  • Surface material: ETFE and PET laminates are described differently by makers. Read what the listing says about the surface.

Write down your device's maximum solar input and its plug type before browsing. Those two facts remove most mismatched options at once, and the listing for any panel should let you confirm both without guessing.
