Solar Lights, Cameras and Fans

Solar flood lights, path and string lights, solar security cameras, solar fans and fountain pumps compared by lumens, battery, panel watts and weather rating.

What to compare in solar lights, cameras and fans

This section covers solar gear that sits outside and runs itself. The child pages split it by job, so these checks apply across all of them.

  • Sun exposure: Every item here needs a spot with direct light. Shade, fences and tree cover cut output, whatever the panel's rated watts say.
  • Battery size: Listings state mAh or Wh. Compare it with the panel size, since a large battery with a tiny panel never fully refills.
  • Brightness or flow: Lumens, CFM and gallons per hour are the key output figures. Compare like units only.
  • Weather rating: Count an IP number only if the listing states it. Otherwise assume shelter is needed.
  • Mounting: Pole, wall, stake and ground options matter, as does whether the panel is separate on a cable.

Start with the job, then the sun. Light, camera, fan or pump all depend on a panel that sees direct light, so map the sunny spots on your property before comparing any listings. Rated figures assume good conditions, so leave some margin in every choice and favor listings that print their numbers plainly.
