Batteries and Charging

LiFePO4 batteries, deep cycle and RV batteries, battery chargers, maintainers and battery monitors compared by amp-hours, voltage, BMS details and warranty.

What to compare in batteries and charging

Battery pages cover storage, filling and watching the bank. The child pages split the topic so you can go straight to the part you need; these checks apply to all of them.

  • Chemistry: Read whether the battery is AGM, gel, flooded or LiFePO4. Every charger, controller and monitor you add must list support for that chemistry.
  • System voltage: Pick 12V, 24V or 48V once, then match every other part to it. Mixing voltages is the quickest way to buy something that cannot connect.
  • Capacity as listed: Use the Ah or Wh figure the listing prints. Guessing conversions between the two invites mistakes, so compare only like with like.
  • Charging method: Mains chargers, solar controllers and DC to DC chargers each suit different situations. Decide how the bank will mainly be refilled first.
  • Monitoring: A shunt-based monitor shows the state of the bank more clearly than a voltage reading alone, and it is worth planning for early.
  • Protection: Fuses sized to the cable and the bank are part of the purchase. Have a licensed electrician handle anything beyond simple battery work.

If you are replacing a battery, copy its chemistry, voltage, group size and terminal type from the old label. That one step answers most compatibility questions before you open a listing.
