Rigid and Flexible Panels

Rigid, flexible and bifacial solar panels compared by rated watts, cell type, voltage, dimensions, weight, frame or flexible mounting and stated warranties.

What to compare in rigid and flexible panels

Glass-framed panels and thin flexible ones solve different problems. Weight, bendability and cell type shape the choice more than headline wattage does.

  • Cell type as stated: Monocrystalline, polycrystalline and thin-film cells are labeled differently from maker to maker. Compare the stated type next to the rated watts, not instead of them.
  • Weight per panel: Flexible panels usually weigh far less than framed glass ones. The listed weight tells you whether one person can move it safely.
  • Bend limit: Flexible panels may list a maximum bend. Going past it can crack cells, so match the stated limit to the surface you have in mind.
  • Voltage figures: Check open-circuit and operating voltage against your controller's input limit before putting panels in series.
  • Frame and glass: Rigid panels list frame material and glass thickness. Read what the listing says about construction before you assume it suits a permanent spot.
  • Warranty terms: Rigid and flexible panels often carry different warranty lengths. Read the stated terms and what they cover.

Decide where the panel will sit and how often it moves. A panel that stays in one spot rewards a sturdier build, while one that travels rewards low weight, and the stated specs make that trade visible.
