A stairway at dusk, the steps already dark while the sky still holds some light, is where the best solar lights for steps prove their worth. We compared four solar step lights on what their listings actually state: pack counts, LED counts, stated lumens, runtime, weather ratings and warranty terms. Every figure below comes from the listing, and where a listing contradicts itself we say so in the review. The YiLaie 4-pack leads on 24 LEDs, 192 lumens and an IP68 rating, with the GVSHINE 2-sided 6-pack close behind.

Where the points went
The Solar Score weighs performance, build, value, safety and warranty. For step lights, safety means the ingress ratings and certifications the listing actually states; three picks state an IP code from IP55 to IP68, the ROSHWEY states water resistance without a code, and the GVSHINE adds CE, FCC, RoHS and UKCA. All four state a warranty term, from 360 days to 1 year. How we pick explains the weights.
| Product | Solar Score | Perf. /35 | Build /25 | Value /25 | Safety /10 | Warranty /5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YiLaie Solar Dock Lights | 9.7 | 32 | 22 | 21 | 8 | 4 |
| GVSHINE 6-Pack Step Lights | 9.7 | 30 | 21 | 20 | 7 | 4 |
| ROSHWEY 6-Pack Deck Lights | 9.6 | 28 | 22 | 21 | 5 | 4 |
| Follateas 2-Pack Step Lights | 9.5 | 24 | 20 | 20 | 5 | 4 |
Scores run from 9.2 to 9.8: each product’s point total is placed on that range, so more points always means a higher score.
How to choose the best solar lights for steps
Match the mount to the step
Mounting varies more than the lights do. The YiLaie disks stick on with adhesive or sit on the ground, the ROSHWEY uses 2 screws or double-sided tape, and the Follateas fits to walls and fences point to point. The GVSHINE gives you an EVA sticker or screws with a cardboard template. For the wider category, see our deck railing lights guides.
Compare stated runtimes
Stated runtimes cluster between 8 and 12 hours, so charge requirements and the odd one out matter. The table below covers all four picks.
| Light | Runtime | Charge needed |
|---|---|---|
| YiLaie Solar Dock Lights | Not stated | Not stated |
| GVSHINE 6-Pack Step Lights | 8-12 hours | 4-6 hours |
| ROSHWEY 6-Pack Deck Lights | 8-10 hours | Not stated |
| Follateas 2-Pack Step Lights | Up to 10 hours | Not stated |
The YiLaie states no runtime or charge time at all, which costs it in scoring despite the strong IP68 and lumen figures. For step-specific comparisons, see our outdoor step lights and outdoor stair lights picks.
Read the weather rating
The YiLaie states IP68, the highest rating in this group. The GVSHINE states IP65 and the Follateas states IP55. The ROSHWEY is the odd one: its listing states water resistance without an IP code, so we score it on the stated build and protections instead.
Count lights per step
Pack counts run from 2 (Follateas) to 6 (ROSHWEY, GVSHINE), with a 4-pack from YiLaie in between. A straight run of steps needs one light per few treads, so the 6-packs cover longer runs in one purchase while the 2-pack suits a short porch entry.
Sizing Notes
- Match the stated runtime to your nights: 8 to 12 hours (GVSHINE), 8 to 10 hours (ROSHWEY), up to 10 hours (Follateas); the YiLaie states no runtime.
- Match the stated charge time to your sun: 4 to 6 hours (GVSHINE); the ROSHWEY, Follateas and YiLaie state no charge time.
- Match pack count to step count: 6-packs (ROSHWEY, GVSHINE), 4-pack (YiLaie), 2-pack (Follateas).
- Check the stated weather rating against exposure: IP68 (YiLaie), IP65 (GVSHINE), IP55 (Follateas); the ROSHWEY states water resistance without an IP code.
- Match the stated mounting to your surface: screws, adhesive tape, stick-on disks or EVA stickers are stated across the picks, and the GVSHINE includes a drilling template.
